Position Overview:

The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership and operational expertise to advance the mission of the Jeff Ruby Foundation (JRF). This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors and collaborate with Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment (JRCE) employees to ensure the foundation meets its objectives while upholding its values and purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising and Development:
  • Lead and grow fundraising initiatives to achieve foundation objectives through events, grants, contracts, individual donations, and guest contributions from JRCE.
  • Strategic Execution:
  • Collaborate with JRF Board members to develop and execute the Vision, Purpose, Mission, Objectives, Strategies, and Actions (VPMOSA) annually. Take ownership of implementing the foundation’s strategic objectives throughout the year.
  • Public Speaking and Advocacy:
  • Represent the Jeff Ruby Foundation through public speaking engagements, promoting its mission and impact.
  • Compliance and Governance:
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance in all foundation activities.
  • Grantmaking Operations:
  • Oversee the foundation’s grantmaking processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Financial Management:
  • Manage the foundation’s budget, ensuring financial health and transparency.
  • Event Leadership:
  • Plan and lead key events such as fundraisers, Fighting Chance Family Dinners, and other signature programs.
  • Programmatic Decision-Making:
  • Evaluate and select organizations and programs to support, ensuring alignment with JRF’s strategic priorities.
  • Scholarship Program Coordination:
  • Plan and oversee the Chris Combs Scholarship Program, ensuring its successful execution annually.
  • Administrative Oversight:
  • Manage administrative responsibilities, including responding to email and phone inquiries, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Board Engagement:
  • Organize and co-lead board meetings with the President, fostering collaboration and alignment among board members.
  • Collaboration with JRCE:
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment employees, fostering alignment and synergy between the foundation and the broader organization.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead and manage a team of potential interns, volunteers, and other staff, ensuring their effective contribution to the foundation’s mission.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the foundation and the Board of Directors, ensuring consistent communication and productive collaboration.
  • Volunteer and Outreach Coordination:
  • Lead the employee volunteer program and oversee other outreach initiatives to amplify community impact.
  • Newsletter Management:
  • Take full ownership of producing and distributing the Jeff Ruby Foundation newsletter, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Executive Director or equivalent leadership role, with strong knowledge of nonprofit foundations and their operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred in business, social sciences, health, or a relevant field, with at least 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality programs aligned with JRF’s mission.
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising expertise, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project management skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficiency in computers and technology.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven focus, and self-direction.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and healthcare access.

Estimated Allocated Hours Per Week:

  • Fundraising and Donor Relations: ~12-15 hours/week
  • Strategic Planning and Board Engagement: ~8-10 hours/week
  • Event and Program Coordination: ~8-10 hours/week
  • Community Outreach and Advocacy: ~4-6 hours/week
  • Administrative and Financial Management: ~4-6 hours/week
  • While not often, the hours could include nights and weekends
