General Summary The City of Pontiac is seeking a highly responsible and organized person to join the City's Income Tax team.
Under the supervision of the Income Tax Administrator, this position assists with and performs complex clerical work in the processing, maintenance and review of general income tax forms. Maintains income tax files, assists the public and performs other technical work as required. The employee is expected to perform daily work with minimal supervision.
This position is the primary point of contact for taxpayers and tax preparers, assisting them with questions and providing pertinent information regarding City of Pontiac Tax Ordinance and other governmental tax regulations.
Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, demonstrate high-level accuracy, possess top quality customer service skills and must maintain regular attendance.

Essential Duties - Answers telephones, makes appointments and provides basic information regarding Income Tax Ordinance. Performs routine customer service functions and clerical tasks.
- Assists taxpayers and tax preparers with questions involving tax related matters. Updates taxpayer records.
- Responsible for reviewing, entering, auditing, and verifying accuracy of income tax returns and all attachments received for individual filers. Prepares refunds, carry forwards, donations and submits billings. Send audit letters when discrepancies are discovered or when additional information is needed.
- Composes and prepares various forms of correspondence, records and reports.
- Performs mathematical computations and updates records as needed.
- Prepares and maintains detailed records related to taxpayer information including but not limited to employee payroll withholding, reconciliations and billings.
- Responsible for monitoring annual employer withholding statements and periodic payments. Ability to reconcile employer W2's and tax payments received.
- Assists with the preparation and processes of income tax compliance including but not limited to information received from the Michigan Department of Treasury and other data.
- Responsible for reviewing and updating income tax forms on city website annually or as needed.
- Attends conferences, training sessions and meetings as recommended by the Income Tax Administrator.
- Keeps up to date with any changes to state and federal income tax laws, policies and procedures.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of income tax office information, operations and records.
- Perform related work as required.

- Knowledge of employee policies and procedures.
- Possess computer skills that encompass effective use of word processing, presentation spreadsheet, email, Microsoft office suite products, and internet browser software.
Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
Three years of experience in tax preparation or accounting desired.
