Job Description

Responsible for providing immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the program and regulatory agencies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Accurately assesses patient’s needs utilizing multiple sources to determine actual and potential health problems and functional status. Utilizes recovery-oriented framework to identify patient strengths.
* Performs point of care testing and communicates findings effectively to team members.
* Responsible for resident documentation on each shift. Documentation reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patient response to treatment interventions.
* Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis.
* Participates in the multidisciplinary team and attends daily rounds. Provides as leadership role in organizing and providing patient care on shift.
* Accurately plans nursing interventions for patients; modifies and individualizes nursing plan of care and protocols.
* Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others; provides health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals and documents teaching in patient record.
* Establishes a therapeutic alliance with patients; partners with patients and families to support recovery goals.
* Performs safe, accurate and timely medication administration.
* Reviews physician orders in a timely manner.
* Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
* Participates in leading groups.
* Completes nursing intakes with prospective patients and present to the Medical Director.
* All other nursing tasks as assigned or requested.
* Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency by completing mandatory staff development trainings, seeking feedback regarding work performance and identifying strengths and areas for professional development with supervisor.
* Maintains patient confidentiality and presents in a positive and professional manner.

* Reports directly to Head Nurse and Medical Director.

Requirements: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine. Experience in psychiatric and substance use treatment strongly preferred.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Requires demonstrated ability to exercise proper judgement, discretion, initiative, and have excellent communication skills.
* Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
* Must be CPR and First Aid certified; or training provided.
* Ability to utilize the nursing process and to work collaboratively in a team setting.
* Must be comfortable answering the phones to include patient calls, family calls and calls from referral sources and business contacts.
* Able to prioritize workload to assure patient care is addressed in a timely manner.
* All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.

Working conditions: Works in a typical residential psychiatric setting with patients who are experiencing a wide range of acute psychiatric conditions, including early withdrawal. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Moderate amount of walking. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Significant mental effort involved in working with and organizing care for a diverse patient population.

Pay: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 32 per week
