Job Description

Summary

The Echeverria lab is seeking a candidate who will balance two main roles: 1) conduct molecular cancer biology experiments, and 2) ensure the smooth running of the laboratory by ordering and organizing reagents and stocks, among other tasks. The focus of the lab is to delineate the metabolic evolution of aggressive breast cancer using in vitro and in vivo experimental models. The ideal candidate will be proactive, scientifically curious, have strong organizational and time management skills, and enjoy working with others. We seek a candidate who will work well with all members of our highly collaborative, collegial, and hard working lab that is enthusiastically dedicated to breast cancer research.

 

The individual should enjoy being highly organized, detail oriented, and working with an enthusiastic laboratory team. The individual should be scientifically curious, proactive, and dedicated to ensuring the laboratory runs efficiently. The individual should enjoy helping the PI ensure a robust laboratory environment so that progress towards curing breast cancer can be made as efficiently as possible. The lab provides an interactive, collaborative, and stimulating environment ideal for those who are passionate about science, hard working, and are looking for scientific learning opportunities and who often want to further their educational/ research experience. The lab is in its 5th year, so projects and training opportunities are rapidly expanding. Mentorship, collaboration, and collegiality are highly valued in the lab.

Job Duties

  • Designs (with help from PI and labmates as needed) and conducts laboratory experiments involving cell culture and molecular and cell biology.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and presents data to the PI and laboratory personnel.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and maintains a detailed laboratory notebook and data files.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and maintains online order log and oversees deliveries to the lab.
  • Learns and routinely uses BCM purchasing systems.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with BCM procurement and departmental administrative personnel.
  • Assists the PI with efficient operation of the laboratory as needed.
  • Provides suggestions and insights about the efficient running of the lab to the PI.
  • Conducts other tasks as needed to contribute to the smooth running of the lab.
  • Organizes stocks of laboratory supplies.
  • Organizes and maintains equipment in the lab as needed.
  • Oversees new employee onboarding in the lab.

     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Experience conducting molecular biology and/or mammalian cell culture experiments.
  • Experience in laboratory organization such as ordering, organizing supplies, and tracking of expenditures.
