TITLE: SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER POSITION TYPE: Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION: - To maintain the security and safety of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Assist the administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly school building
- Patrol campus and maintain security of buildings and grounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or GED required
- Security experience in a public school preferred
- Some experience or training in a security-related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of security procedures and best practices
- Ability to acquire knowledge of School Board policies and procedures and Student Rights and Responsibilities
- Must have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office programs
- Must possess excellent human relations skills
- Must possess a valid Virginia's driver's license with positive DMV points
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Provide a safe secure environment for students, staff, and guests on campus
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community members
- Supervises and directs pupil movement
- Assist with fire drills and all other crisis prevention measures/evacuations
- Help to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police, fire, and rescue departments
- Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations
- Regulate students' behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, parking lots, and other open areas
- Assist with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance. Request assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary
- Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations
- Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student related incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts and/or referring to outside agency for resolution
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns
- Prepares documentation (e.g. incident and activity reports, security logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
- Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations
- Testifies in court and at School Board Disciplinary Review Committee hearings as required.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
- Demonstrate problem solving and responsible decision making skills
- Performs other related duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 180 days a year. Salary according to School Pay Plan.
EVALUATION Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel. Prince George County Public Schools
