Job Summary:

UW-Madison's Division of Extension serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide, and national issues, improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts.

The Health & Well-Being Institute ( works to catalyze positive change in Wisconsin residents through evidence-informed and community-engaged health promotion programs to improve health, build community capacity to identify and address health inequities, engage in collective action, and achieve greater health equity.

The Communications Specialist will collaborate with program staff and partners to support communications for an evolving portfolio of Health & Well-Being Institute grant funded projects. Primary duties will be unique to each project and may include content development for grant project communications; producing monthly email newsletters; copyediting and proofreading; editing and formatting reports and outreach materials; and developing, implementing, and maintaining organizational systems for grant project communications. The Special Projects Communications Specialist is a key member in a highly collaborative team, with a shared priority of increasing access and centering equity, diversity, and inclusion within the Institute.

Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
  • 15% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 20% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 15% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 30% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 20% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

Qualifications:

Required:
  • At least one year of communications-related work experience (internship or professional experience)
  • Experience in writing and publishing for a variety of media channels, such as digital and/or print publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Experience taking initiative and independently managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Experience working in team environments, with an appreciation for varied perspectives of colleagues
  • Ability to effectively interact with people from different cultural backgrounds including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, sexual orientation and other aspects of human diversity
  • Commitment to Extension's values of equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, like Eloqua
  • Graphic design skills, including familiarity with design software
  • Spanish speaking, writing and comprehension skills. Language skills will be evaluated

Work Type:

Part Time: 50% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications
