Job Description for Staff Accountant

Sector: Nonprofit (Veteran Services)

Reports To: President & CEO of NPLB

Category: Accounting

Status: Part-time (10-20 hours per week) but may lead to full-time employment

Workplace type: Onsite

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

You will deliver accurate full-suite accounting and bookkeeping services. We are looking for an intrinsically motivated problem-solver who values teamwork and impact. You will use your passion for accounting and the nonprofit sector to make a lasting impact on our business.

  • Entering transactions using various software platforms.
  • Preparing reconciliations (i.e. bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, general ledger accounts, etc.).
  • Ensure bills, reimbursements, or other disbursements are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accounting files are maintained and accurate.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Preparing monthly financial reports for CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Responding to requests from CEO and Treasurer on general accounting needs (i.e. creating custom reports, assist with developing budgets, etc.).
  • Prepare and deliver board of director and finance committee presentations.
  • Establishing, documenting, and evaluating internal processes to ensure quality service.
  • Maintain open and responsible communication.
  • Ensure that NPLB's financial statements are accurate and 'audit-ready' prior to the commencement of financial statement audits. Serve as a liaison between NPLB and our auditors.
  • Review audits, 990's, and monthly reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and file electronically Form 1099s annually.

QualificationS:

  • CPA license, preferred
  • Military veterans, disabled veterans or immediate family members of disabled veterans preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or an Accounting-related field
  • 2-4 years of full cycle accounting experience
  • 1+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting systems and tools (such as QuickBooks Online, Dext, and/or Bill.com)
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Able to work well independently and under pressure

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

SALARY:

  • Paid Hourly: $34.27-38.54 depending on experience and qualifications. Reevaluated at 6 months based on performance.
