Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to join our team. The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiber splicing, be detail-oriented, and possess the technical expertise needed to ensure seamless connectivity and network performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Splice fiber optic cables including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
Perform fiber optic testing using OTDR, power meter, and light source equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fiber connectivity and signal loss.
Prepare and maintain detailed splicing records and documentation of completed work.
Work on both aerial and underground fiber installations, following industry standards and safety guidelines.
Coordinate with field teams, project managers, and clients to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
Maintain and organize tools and equipment used for splicing and ensure proper functioning.
Adhere to safety procedures and protocols, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
Inspect fiber routes and identify and repair any potential network vulnerabilities.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications related to fiber optics (e.g., FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician) are preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in fiber splicing and network construction.
Proficiency in using fiber splicing equipment (e.g., fusion splicers) and testing tools.
Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, diagrams, and splicing matrices.
Strong understanding of fiber optic networks and signal transmission.
Experience with both underground and aerial cable installations.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Good physical condition; ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and stand for extended periods.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working on large-scale telecommunications or data center projects.
Familiarity with different types of fiber optic cables, connectors, and enclosures.
Knowledge of safety standards related to working with fiber optics (e.g., OSHA guidelines).
